I signed up The Elder Scrolls Online Beta test today.
Will I get in?
Probably not.
Looking back at my luck for getting into beta’s isn’t exactly positive, Diablo 3 was almost released by the time I got to beta test it.
However, I can cross my fingers and toes, find a four leaf clover, hope for a miracle, and any other good luck bringing thing I could do. And maybe, just maybe, I will get an invite.
Have you signed up to beta test The Elder Scrolls Online yet? Let me know in the comments.

In true MMO fashion, I finally got to kill Samael (aka that jerk NPC in TERA that does nothing but insult you).

Of course, I couldn’t do the quest without bugging it and marching around my apartment in frustration about the whole thing.

See, after you kill Samael the quest is to be handed in to Ciebel, who resides in Velkia, so as the cinematic finishes I scurry through the portal and teleport back to camp to head to Velkia, once I’m on the flight path it is then when I realized that she was back where I killed Samael. Once I landed in Velkia I immediately flew back, and went back to where the quest is (which is quite the hike in its self) and go try to hand the quest in. Except as I enter the teleportal a prompt came up asking if I wanted to reset the quest and I hit it by accident instead of handing the quest in to Ciebel, that’s when she disappeared So I teleported out, went back in again, my quest log said I had to kill Samael again, but and he wasn’t there.
Queue the stomping through the apartment.
Finally after multiple attempts of “giving it time” and teleporting in and out, one of my wonderful guild members calmly told me to press the reset instance button and try it again and it worked no problem.

The quest wasn’t hard, I just made it hard. And I am sure there is some sort of lesson in all of this like, “Read before you click” or “Don’t be an idiot”.

As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I have been having a lot of fun playing TERA. However, there are a few choices that the designers/translators/the-people-that-made-the-game have made that I just don’t understand.

1. The Designers Hold A Grudge Against Pants.
I have not found armour that provides me with a good pair of pants yet. I love the Armour design in this game, it is beyond beautiful and, I really don’t mind revealing the outfits. (They can even be revealing on some of the males of the different races for the people into that.) However, I still haven’t had pants equipped to my Slayer (or as you see in the screenshot above, this low level Lancer). The armour my Slayer is currently wearing does have one pant leg, however the other side cuts off into a booty short type of thing. I don’t get it, are the designers anti pants? (I do realize the reason for this is likely due to the abundant male player base, but still.)

2. The Federation (of Planets)?
In TERA the alliance between difference races is called the “federation”. However every time I hear or read federation I instantly think of Star Trek and the Federation of Planets. I suspect that is true for a lot of gamers, and if they aren’t thinking Star Trek then they might be thinking of Star Wars and the Trade Federation. Why bother calling it a federation at all when most people have only heard it used in Star Trek or Star Wars terms? I am sure there is a zillion other things they could have called it, or just make up a name like what was done in Aion with the Elyos and Asmodians.

3. The Race of Prepubescent Girls (Elins)
I play a Castanic, which are basically bad ass elves with horns. However there is a race I don’t understand, and that is the Elins. Elins are a race made up of curvy prepubescent girls who usually wear animal tales or ears and always have a short skirt or shorts on. The art design is totally cute, but seems so out of place against the more detailed and realistic designs of most of the other races. I have nothing against them, and will probably even make one, they just look very out of place with the other races.

4. Still Using Weird and Outdated Words
I am level 26 and once again, the NPC’s are still using the word keener. The word “keener” by the way, has approximately 8.2 million results on Google, many of which are of people with keener as their last name. By contrast, “eager” had 121 million results. Come on translators, lets use typical English words, not the words Grandma uses.
Hope you have enjoyed my semi serious list of things I don’t understand about TERA.
What things about TERA or any other MMOs do you not understand? Let me know in the comments.
